River Lions Announce the 2022 Training Camp Roster
May 16, 2022 - Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL)
Niagara River Lions News Release
St. Catharines, Ontario - The Niagara River Lions announced today the 16 players that will report to the 2022 training camp presented by DEEP RELIEF® Pain Relief. Players went through combine testing at Pelino Athletic Performance Centre as well as medicals this past weekend, and will begin practice today. The camp is set to take place from May 16th to May 23rd, before the team departs for Saskatchewan. Training camp will take place at the Canada Games Park in Thorold with strength and conditioning sessions being held at Iron Performance Centre. An intersquad scrimmage is scheduled for May 20th in front of students at AN Myer Highschool in Niagara Falls. After seven consecutive days of training, Head Coach and Co- General Manager Victor Raso and Head of Basketball Operations and Co-General Manager Antwi Atuahene will select the final 12-man roster that will tip-off the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) season on May 25th.
"We're very excited about the group we've put together, and the players we've added to enhance our training camp roster," said Raso. "We have a great mix of veteran and young players, and we are ready to kickoff training camp and begin building the foundation of our 2022 season."
Returning core Canadians include Jaylen Babb-Harrison, Jake Babic, Olu Ashaolu, and Daniel Waldin-Mullings who will look to build off the success they saw last year.
Veteran Philip Scrubb will be joining the active roster once his season concludes overseas in Spain.
The River Lions welcome Tidjan Keita, their first international player hailing from Paris, France who will add some size, strength and athleticism to the roster. The River Lions also welcome three new Americans in Khalil Amhad, AJ Davis and EJ Onu. Ahmad played in the NCAA for Cal State Fullerton, where he became one of the top three scorers in the school's history. Davis Jr. played in the NCAA for UCF and is the son of former NBA star Antonio Davis. Onu recently completed his first professional contract with the Memphis Hustle of the NBA G-League.
The River Lions have also signed new Canadians, Alonzo Walker and Munis Tutu. This will be Walker's first taste of professional basketball in Canada, while Tutu has prior experience in the CEBL with the Ottawa Blackjacks during the 2020 Summer Series. Also joining the training camp roster as a USPORTS athlete from Brock University is Isaiah Bujdoso.
Rounding out the roster is Kasius Small-Martin, Godsman Kwakwah, Jordan Tchuente, Jordan Lyons and Antoine Vernon, who are all current USPORTS athletes at Canadian universities.
All roster additions serve as improvements upon last year's team in athletic, size and defensive areas, while also contributing to dynamic offensive production. After making the finals last season and coming up just short of the goal, Victor Raso and Antwi Atuahene have been tirelessly working to acquire phenomenal players that align with the River Lions culture and values, while contributing to the on-court success of the organization.
The River Lions will tip off the 2022 CEBL season versus the Saskatchewan Rattlers on May 25th at 9:30pm (ET). The game will be streamed on CEBL+ , cbcsports.ca and the CBC GemApp.
The River Lions home opener will take place on June 3rd versus expansion franchise the Montreal Alliance at 7:00pm. Season tickets, voucher packs, marquee matchup packs, group tickets, and single game tickets are on sale now. Visit www.riverlions.ca/tickets for more information.
