Cedar Rapids River Kings News Release
The River Kings have signed indoor football veteran QB Patrick Ryan to its 2019 roster.
Ryan (6'0", 195, West Virginia State) comes to Cedar Rapids after having spent the 2018 season with the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks of the National Arena League. As an indoor football rookie Ryan played in two games for the Steelhawks. Prior to the Steelhawks, he spent the 2017 season with the Atlantic Sharks of the Rivals Professional Football League, a NFL and CFL developmental league, where he was named RPFL Player of the Year.
Prior to turning professional, Ryan spent a pair of seasons at West Virginia State University, starting in five games across those seasons. He still holds two WVSU records, including rushing yards in a single game by a quarterback and most touchdown passes in a single game. He was named West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (now the Mountain East Conference) Player of the Week twice, and HBCU (Historically Black College and Universities) Player of the Week once. In his sophomore year he had four starts, with 887 yards and seven touchdowns.
Ryan graduated from Gateway Charter High School in Gateway, Florida, helping his team go 6-3 on the season. He accounted for 1,287 total offensive yards with 11 touchdowns as a senior.
