River Bats to participate in Kids Clinic

January 31, 2003 - Southeastern League (SEL)
Baton Rouge River Bats News Release

BATON ROUGE – The Baton Rouge River Bats organization will participate in the weekend festivities for the Baton Rouge Kids Baseball Clinic. Team owners, staff and players, as well as Southeastern League Commissioner James Gamble, will have a table at Friday's banquet.

Jason Williams and Rick Greene will instruct during Saturday's three-hour clinic along with pitcher Chet Chambless and outfielder James Jarreau. Former Tiger players Williams and Greene are scheduled to play in the alumni game later that afternoon.

Former Major League pitcher Steve Bourgeois also will attend the banquet and clinic. He will tryout for the River Bats in a bullpen throwing session after the clinic, as he attempts to comeback from injuries that forced him to sit out last season. Bourgeois, a Lutcher native, pitched for the San Francisco Giants during the 1996 season. He also pitched his way to a 12-3 record with a 2.45 ERA for the Shreveport Captains, Double-A affiliate of the Giants, in 1995.

The River Bats are gearing up for their 2003 Southeastern League season. Corporate nights, advertising packages and season ticket packages now are available. Contact the River Bats office at (225) 344-BATS or log on to the River Bats' official Web site, www.brriverbats.com, to receive more information about professional baseball in Baton Rouge.

Pete Goldsby Field, home of the River Bats, is located next to Memorial Stadium off Interstate 110 near the Governor's Mansion in downtown Baton Rouge.
