Baton Rouge River Bats News Release

(ST. CLOUD, MN) - The St. Cloud River Bats have announced the signing of two additional players for the 2011 season. Jordan Fox (UC Irvine) and Ronald Sucre (Pittsburgh) recently inked contracts to play for the River Bats this summer. Fox, a junior from Hacienda Heights, Calif., joins fellow Anteater Jordan Alexander. In his first two seasons at UC Irvine, the 5'9'' utility man has played a variety of positions, including first base. Last season Fox hit .275 in 37 games; he also stole six bases in eight attempts. ‚¬Å“Jordan is a very versatile young man, ‚¬Â River Bats Managing Partner Joel Sutherland said. ‚¬Å“It's hard to make it through the long summer season without guys like him. ‚¬Â Last summer Fox played summer ball for the Cowlizt Black Bears of the West Coast League. He led his team in batting average (.331) and finished as one of the top 10 hitters in the league. ‚¬Å“His coaches [at UC Irvine] say he is an absolute wizard with the glove, ‚¬Â River Bats Field Manager Ben Quinto said. ‚¬Å“He also knows what the summer cycle is all about. ‚¬Â Accompanying Fox will be Sucre, a 6'0'', 185-pound sophomore infielder from Miami, Fla. Last spring, Sucre played primarily third base and appeared 30 games, 11 of which were starts. He hit .266 with one home run and 10 RBIs in 64 at-bats. Sucre is teammates with former St. Cloud River Bat John Schultz. ‚¬Å“Ronald is one of the up and coming players in Pittsburgh's program, ‚¬Â Sutherland said. ‚¬Å“He will be a major contributor for us this summer. ‚¬Â The River Bats remain in the process of assembling the 2011 roster.
