Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

The Quad Cities River Bandits and the Williamsport Crosscutters finished their Friday match-up in a dead heat, unaware that the madness had yet to begin. The two squads, locked in a second-round battle as part of a March Madness-style tournament to determine who has the best logo in Minor League Baseball, entered Monday ready for a runoff to determine the winner.

That set the stage for Monday's overtime period, in which the winner would advance to face the Modesto Nuts in the Sweet 16. Despite trailing for most of the morning, the Quad Cities River Bandits battled back and captured the momentum en-route to a come-from-behind victory to stay alive in the tournament.

"We are very excited to be moving on in this tournament," said team owner Dave Heller. "It is a testament not only to the great new logo, but also to the dedicated River Bandits fan base that hit the polls to vote their team to victory."

The No. 12-seeded River Bandits have now pulled off a pair of upsets, downing the No. 5-seeded Greensboro Grasshoppers in the opening round before knocking off the No. 4-seeded Crosscutters in the runoff.

There will be no rest for the weary, however, as the River Bandits will turn around to face Modesto on Tuesday - a No. 1 seed.

"Now it's time to show the West Coast just how much pride we have here in the Quad Cities," said River Bandits Vice President and General Manager Kirk Goodman. "Modesto may be feeling pretty untouchable on that No. 1 seed pedestal, but there is no doubt in my mind that our great logo and our great fans together can beat anybody."

Much like previous match-ups, Tuesday's River Bandits-Nuts showdown will begin at 8:00 a.m. Central and last until 8:00 a.m. Central on Wednesday morning.
