Phoenix Rising FC News Release
TAMPA BAY - Phoenix Rising FC fell, 2-1, to Tampa Bay Rowdies tonight at Al Lang Stadium. Santi Moar picked up his third goal of the season for Phoenix in the loss. Rising returns to Wild Hose Pass next Saturday, May 22, vs. Las Vegas Lights FC at 7:30 p.m.
In its first away match of the 2021 season, Rising gave up an early goal when Tampa Bay forward Steevan Do Santos turned his defender and sprinted towards the end line. Santos cut a pass back across the six-yard box, where Rising midfielder Aodhan Quinn attempted to intercept the pass, but instead, ended up redirecting the ball into the back of his own net to make it 1-0.
Rising fired back 10 minutes later, when Santi Moar set up Quinn on the opposite end. Quinn fired a low shot towards the far post, but Rowdies goalkeeper Evan Louro made a diving save to his left side to preserve the one-goal lead.
Ben Lundt came up huge for Rising in the 60th minute when Tampa's Lewis Hilton crossed the ball to the back post for Forrest Lasso. The defender struck a shot, high to the near post but Lundt dove to his right side to make a remarkable save.
Tampa's Dos Santos made it 2-0 on the ensuing corner kick when a Rowdies attacker won a header at the back post. Lundt made a save, low to his right side but the rebound fell to Dos Santos, who finished easily into the vacated net to give the home side a two-goal advantage.
James Musa played a long pass up the middle in the 68th minute. Rufat Dadashov won the header to get the ball to Santi Moar and the forward hit a high volley at the front post, giving Louro no chance. The shot cruised past the goalkeeper and into the top corner of the net to make it 2-1, but that was as close as Phoenix would come as Tampa Bay's defense closed out the match to win by a single goal.
