Riptide Win 4-2 in Extra Innings
Fairfax, Va.- The New England Riptide drought ended last night as they beat the Washington Glory in eight innings by a score of 4-2. Both teams scored two runs in regulation in the third. In the top Jackie Pasquerella singled, followed by a Gina Carbonatto single, however Pasquerella was picked off second when she rounded too far. Later on Shanel Scott ( who led the NCAA in steals this year ) stole her third base of the season and moved to third on Carri Martin's single. Both runners were driven in by Lyndsey Angus who followed with a single of her own up the middle. The Glory scored their two when Amber Jackson singled home Stephanie Best and Kelly Kretschman. Riptide starter Jocelyn Forest got into trouble in the sixth and it would have been worse if not for a great catch by Carbonatto in center. With runners at second and third in that inning, Forest gave way to Erica Beach who got her out of the jam. Beach got into trouble herself in the seventh, when she had control problems and loaded the bases with only one out. With the winning run at third though, Beach struck out Amber Jackson and Oli Keohohou to send the game into extra innings. The Riptide took no time in taking advantage, scoring two runs on singles by Martin and Lisa Iancin, and doubles by Scott and Jess Merchant to score two. Beach had no trouble in the bottom of the eighth as she picked up her first and the Riptide's first win of the year. The series with the Glory will finish Sunday at 3:05pm. The Riptide will travel to Illinois to take on the Rockford Thunder, before returning home for the home season opener on Thursday June 14 at 7:05pm.
