New England Riptide News Release


The New England Riptide was back in action Friday July 7 for the third game in a series of four with the Philadelphia Force. The Riptide took the game in the bottom of the eighth for the second night in a row, 3-2. Philadelphia leadoff batter Carri Leto helped to put the Force on the board early in the first inning. Leto sent a single up the middle and Chelsea Spencer laid down a sacrifice bunt that allowed Lyndsey Angus to throw her out at first but advanced Leto to second. Ryan Realmuto was next to the plate sending a double into deep leftfield that scored Leto giving Philadelphia an early 1-0 lead. Riptide pitcher Erica Beach earned consecutive strikeouts against Jenna Hall and Lindsey Cameron to put the inning away. The Riptide was strong offensively through the second inning finally putting a run on the board in the bottom of the third. Jackie Pasquerella led off with a base hit putting the tying run on for New England. Angus was next to the plate sending a double down the third base line that drove Pasquerella home tying the game 1-1. New England seized the opportunity to take the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Philadelphia pitcher Jodie Cox hit Angus putting her on base for the Riptide. KJ Kelley came to the plate with two outs in the inning and blasted a triple down the third base line scoring Angus to give the Riptide a 2-1 lead. Philadelphia quickly answered the Riptide run in the top of the sixth. Leto singled to shallow centerfield putting the tying run on for the Force. Leto advanced to second on a wild pitch and Ryan Realmuto sent a double into right centerfield scoring Leto and tying the game at 2. New England thwarted a Philadelphia advance in the top of the seventh carrying the 2-2 tie into the bottom of the inning. Cameron led off with a single putting the go ahead run on base for the Force. Jaime Dacey flied out to Lindy Winkler in left for out number one. Cox was next to the plate hitting back to Beach in the circle. Beach turned and threw to Frankenstein at second for the out on Cameron, Frankenstein turned the double throwing to Angus at first for the out on Cox. Philadelphia quieted the Riptide at the plate through the bottom of the seventh sending the 2-2 tie into extra innings for the second night in a row. Melissa Ramirez was entered to pinch hit for Emily Friedman in the top of the eighth. Ramirez was handed a walk by Beach. After falling behind Stacie Pestrak in the count Beach was relieved by Jocelyn Forest. Pestrak laid down a bunt that got her aboard safely but allowed Kelley to throw out Friedman at second for out number one. Leto was next to the plate grounding out to Kristin Allain at second but advancing Pestrak to second. Spencer sent a base hit into right field that looked like it could score Pestrak. Right fielder Kristin Vesely threw to catcher Kelley who tagged out Pestrak at home to put away the top of the inning. The Riptide rallied to take the game in the bottom of the eighth. Force relief pitcher Jennifer Stewart walked Kelley with one out in the inning. Kristine Botto was entered to pinch run for Kelley. Allain was next to a plate laying down a bunt that got her aboard safely and advanced Botto to second. Jen Scavone recorded the game winning hit blasting a double down the first base line that scored Botto for the 3-2 New England victory. The 'Tide are back on the field at home tomorrow, Saturday July 8 for the fourth and final game of the series with the Philadelphia Force.
