Riptide win 1-0 Behind Henderson

July 26, 2007 - National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) - New England Riptide News Release

Lowell, MA- The New England Riptide and the Philadelphia Force met for their second game of a four game series tonight. Once again, the Riptide bats were silent collecting only one hit off Margo Pruis, however the story of the game was the Riptide defense and the gutty performance of Danielle Henderson as the Riptide shut down the Force and scored a run of their own in the first to take the game 1-0. Although Pruis allowed only one hit, she did walk seven and the Riptide took advantage in the first as Shanel Scott (who stole her 26th base), Lyndsey Angus and Garland Cooper each drew walks and Carri Martin's sac fly scored Scott.

Meanwhile Henderson allowed only three hits and walked four and was tough when she had to be in picking up the complete game shutout to move to 7-3.

The Riptide defense came up huge, turning three double plays in the first four innings to stave off any rallies. The biggest one was in the third with runners at first and second when Chelsea Spencer hit a hard line drive, snared by Martin and was able to double Trena Peel at second. The Riptide also got DPs in the first, again with runners at first and second Jackie Pasquerella fielded a ground ball, stepped on third and threw to first. In the fourth it was Kellie Wilkerson grounding into a 4-6-3 double play.

From the Fifth inning on, Henderson was un hittable and faced only nine batters, Peel walking, but being caught stealing. Angus at first and Scott in left also made great stops to aid the Riptide cause and preserve the win.

The teams play again on Friday and Saturday at 7:05 at Martin Softball Field. The Riptide do not return home until Friday, August 10th to play their final home series, this one against the Akron Racers.
