Los Angeles Riptide News Release

CARSON, CALIFORNIA - After a successful week in which the Los Angeles Riptide defeated the San Francisco Dragons on consecutive days, the team returns to action to try to extend its winning streak. The Riptide begins a two-game road trip in Chicago to play the Machine at the Sports Complex of Benedictine University on Saturday, July 22 at 2:00 p.m. (CT). The game is the MLL Game of the Week and can be viewed on ESPN2 on Tuesday, August 1 at 3:30 p.m. (PT).

The Riptide has already played two games against the Chicago Machine and earned victories in both of them. The Riptide earned its first victory, its first home victory and its first road victory in team history against the Machine. In the regular season finale against Chicago, the Riptide looks to sweep the series. The Machine is the only team remaining in the League to not earn a victory yet this season.

The Riptide is coming off of two of its best game, against a difficult San Francisco team. Going into the series against San Francisco, the Riptide could have been eliminated from playoff contention, but with two strong victories, the L.A. kept its hopes alive.

Attackman Andrew "Buggs" Combs was selected MLL Offensive Player of the Week after scoring six goals and adding one assist in the second game against the Dragons on July 23. The team also got strong performances in both games from veteran attackman Michael Watson, who scored two goals on July 22 and three goals on July 23, and newly activated midfielder Graham Gill, who scored three goals on July 22 and two goals on July 23.

MLL rookie J.J. Morrissey made his debut for the Riptide since being acquired from the Rochester Rattlers on July 11. He proved that his reputation as a defensive midfielder is well earned, picking up three groundballs in each of the two games against San Francisco. Collegiate Draft pick, defenseman D.J. Driscoll, continues to prove himself defensively. He led the way for the Riptide defensively on July 22 with nine groundballs and followed that with two groundballs on July 23. He leads the Riptide in groundball with 27.

The Riptide midfield is bolstered by the confident leadership of Sean Lindsay, who scored 29 goals and registered 12 assists in his first two years in Major League Lacrosse. This season he is the Riptide point leader among midfielders with 24 points (16 G, 2 2-pt G, 6 A). Lindsay has also been offensively consistent for the Riptide, netting at least one point in each of the last eight games. Lindsay's former Syracuse University teammate Kevin Dougherty also provides midfield stability. The midfield has also gotten some help from Syracuse teammate, Steve Vallone, who scored a two-point goal in consecutive games against Chicago earlier in the season. The Riptide now has a six-game streak of two-point goals.
