San Francisco Dragons News Release
San Francisco, CA - The San Francisco Dragons will be traveling to Paetec Park in Rochester, NY to face the Rochester Rattlers in a game slated for 7:30 PM EDT. The Rattlers have yet to lose at home in the inaugural season of the new Paetec Park.
The Dragons look to recover from a pair of losses to division foe the Los Angeles Riptide the previous weekend.
"We did not play as a team," commented Dragons Head Coach Brian Silcott. "As things went wrong, guys started pressing and trying to make things happen rather than playing as a unit."
At the onset of the weekend series, the Dragons could have eliminated the Riptide from playoff contention if they were on the winning-end of a sweep. As it actually happened, the Dragons were on the losing- end of the weekend series sweep, and now need to win-out the season to guarantee themselves a playoff spot.
Rochester, fighting for a playoff berth of their own, will not make it easy on the Dragons. The Rattlers hope that their team will be jumpstarted by the returning players who were out last week due to the World Lacrosse Championship. Players coming back include attackmen John Grant and Joe Walters, defenseman Brodie Merrill, and midfielder Kevin Cassese.
"The Rattlers have a very talented lineup, and playing them in Rochester is a big challenge" remarked Dragons GM Doug Locker. "We're looking forward to getting back together as a team after this past weekend."
Ryan Powell, the Dragons star attackman and league's leading scorer this season with 50 points, makes his return to Rochester after playing the last five seasons for the Rattlers. Powell, who was named the league's MVP in 2001 for Rochester, scored 123 goals and 111 assists for 234 points in his career with the team before being traded to the Dragons in the off-season.
"The guys know what they need to do," added Silcott. "I think there will be great deal of preparation by every one of our players to make sure they show up Saturday night ready to go hard for a full game."
This Saturday's game will be both broadcast live on WROC and streamed on sportsjuice.com.
