Riptide shut out Heat

The Arizona Heat got caught up in the Riptide and was swept away in the final game of the four game series. New England shut out the Arizona with a 3-0 victory, sweeping the series four games to none. This marks the sixth win a row for the Riptide who has enjoyed a 15-3 record since July 1.

Destiny Frankenstein continued her success at the plate against the Arizona pitching staff, putting the Riptide on the board in the bottom of the second. April Valdez began the game in the circle for Arizona. Valdez faced Riptide batters in game two of the series but did not factor into the decision. Jen Scavone stepped to the plate with two outs and KJ Kelley on first after being handed a leadoff walk. Scavone singled into left field putting Kelley in scoring position. Designated player Kristin Allain walked loading the bases for New England. Frankenstein was next to bat singling over the outstretched glove of second baseman Nichole Thompson advancing Allain to third while scoring Kelley and Scavone to put the Riptide on top 2-0. Frankenstein stole second and an error on the throw by catcher Heather Scaglione sent Allain home for a 3-0 Riptide lead. Jamie Haas entered to pinch hit for Lisa Iancin in the bottom of sixth with two outs. Haas sent a base hit over the head of shortstop Toni Mascarenas but the Riptide bats could not bring her home. Riptide pitcher Jocelyn Forest shut down the Heat at the plate allowing only three hits on the night. Forest was a force in the circle for the Riptide throughout the series earning the win in games one, two and four with a save in game three. Forest pitched a total of twenty-one innings in the four game series allowing only one run and earning sixteen strikeouts.

The 'Tide embark on their final road trip of the regular season visiting Akron to take on the Racers in a four game series beginning Wednesday August 9.
