New England Riptide News Release
Akron Ohio- The Akron Racers did what the Riptide did last night, that is clinch a spot in the NPF playoffs, shutting the Riptide out by a score of 6-0 behind the pitching of Radara McHugh. The playoff picture is now set with the Racers joining the Riptide, Connecticut Brakettes and the Chicago Bandits playing in Connecticut on August 27th and 28th. The Riptide maintain a one game lead over the Racers in third place, but will regain second if the Brakettes lose tonight. Racer starting pitcher, Radara McHugh improved to 13-7 on the season. This was only the 13th loss for the Tide this year and four of them have been to Radara McHugh. McHugh has pitched 25 innings against the Riptide this year and has allowed only one earned run. The Riptide will certainly be happy not to see her in the circle tomorrow night as they try to salvage a split in the series.
McHugh allowed only two hits on the night, both to Jackie Pasquerella. She walked two and struckout only four, but had the hitters off balance all night, popping the ball up and hitting weak grounders. Meanwhile, Riptide starter, Erica Beach, (2-3) only gave up two hit through the first four innings while striking out five. Unfortunately both hits were homeruns, in the third by Tracee McCoy and in the fourth by Stephanie Pomes. Beach ran into trouble in the fifth, however, thanks in part to a two out error by Lisa Iancin (only her fourth of the year). A walk to Iyhia McMichael was followed by consecutive hits by Amber Hall, Caitlin Benyi and Pomes. Danielle Henderson came in to close out the inning for the Riptide.
The teams play the final game of their series tomorrow in Akron before the Riptide end their home season playing the Texas Thunder on August 16th, 17th 18th and 19th. The August 16th game will be taped and shown on Fox Sports Net.
