Riptide Reverse Roles, Win 1-0 Behind Forest

August 12, 2007 - National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) - New England Riptide News Release

Lowell, MA- Today's game between the New England Riptide and the Akron Racers was highlighted by the awarding of two $5,000 scholarships to Anna Maria College.

Jocelyn Forest (3-5) took the circle for the Riptide and Alicia Hallowell (4-4) for the Racers. Both pitchers were in top form holding the opponents to no runs until the Riptide pushed one across on an Alex Sutton single in the sixth to win 1-0.

Sutton's Hit scored Gina Carbonatto who led off the inning with a walk. Lyndsey Angus drew a second walk, the second of three issued by Hallowell, all in the sixth. That set the stage for Sutton's game winner. Lisa Modglin drew the third walk and Lisa Iancin almost put the game away right there hitting a 240' drive bringing the crowd to its feet before it hooked just foul.

The Racers made it interesting in the seventh when Kristin Johnson led off with a double. Norelle Dickson sacrificed her to third, but Forest bore down retiring the next two Racers on groundouts.

Forest scattered seven hits, two of them in the fifth. That, along with one of her two walks loaded the bases for the Racers with one out, but Forest was tough all day when she had to be and got Caitlin Benyi on an infield popup and Tracee McCoy on a strikeout keeping the score tied and allowing the Riptide to eventually win.

The Riptide and Racers play the final game of their series on Monday at 7:05 at Martin Softball Field. This is the final home game for the Riptide of the 2007 season and it will be Lyndsey Angus night at the Riptide with the 2006 National Pro Fastpitch Player of the Year and Leominster native being honored for her accomplishments on the softball field.
