Riptide Players Up For NCAA Anniversary Team
Congratulations to Riptide pitchers Jocelyn Forest and Danielle Henderson, who were among just 36 players nominated for the all-time NCAA 25th Anniversary Division I softball team. In 1981, the NCAA began sponsoring women's championships, which opened the door to increased athletic and academic opportunities for female athletes. Today, the NCAA sponsors 44 women's championships in 20 sports, providing more than 150,000 women with an opportunity to compete for national titles each year.
Ten players and one coach will be named and it is up to the public to vote. Show your support and vote for your favorite players by going to http://www.ncaasports.com/softball/womens/. Voting ends on April 1st and the team will be announced during the 05-06 championship season.
Forest, who pitched Cal Berkeley to a College World Series victory in 2002, defeating Jennie Finch (Arizona) in the final game, also was named NCAA All Tournament and NCAA Most Outstanding Player in 2002.
Henderson, who won NCAA All Tournament honors in 1997 and NFCA All American 1st Team in 1999, holds numerous records at UMass Amherst, and won a Gold medal in the 2000 Olympics.
Good luck to Jocelyn and Danielle!
