Riptide on a Roll

July 8, 2004 - National Pro Fastpitch (NPF)
New England Riptide News Release

The Riptide are now six games into their current 12 game home stand and home cooking seems to be agreeing with them. The Riptide is 4-2 on the current stand. Last weekend the first place Texas Thunder came to town and after a tough 1-0 loss in the first game, the Riptide came back to win in come-from-behind fashion 4-2. They then won the rubber game behind a Jocelyn Forest shutout, beating Texas ace Christa Williams 2-0.

Arizona Heat came into town and again the series opened with a tough 1-0 loss. The Riptide returned the favor the following night with a 1-0 win when Jess Allister hit a walk off homerun, her first of the year, in the bottom of the seventh. The game also marked the return from injury of pitcher Megan Matthews who picked up the win in relief of starter Dana Sorensen in the fifth inning. Sorensen and Matthews combined for the shutout. The final game was not in doubt for long, as Sara Jewett and Rachael McGinnis each belted two-run homeruns to lead the Riptide in a 7-1 rout of the Heat.

The Riptide face yet another first place team this weekend as the Akron Racers have moved ahead of Texas as they come to town. The Riptide hope to put a stop to Akron’s seven-game winning streak tomorrow night at Martin Softball Field in Lowell, MA. Games this weekend against the Racers are Friday at 7:05pm, Saturday at 7:05pm and Sunday at 1:05pm. The Racers are led by 2000 Olympic Gold Medalist and UMass graduate Danielle Henderson, and league batting average leader Iyhia McMichael.

Come Try C2, Coca-Cola's New Product

The Riptide will finish their home stand against the California Sunbirds next Thursday July 15 (7:05), Friday July 16 (1:05) and Saturday July 17 (7:05) after the All-Star break.

Congrats to New England's All-Stars!

The Riptide would like to recognize two players who were picked for the NPF All-Star team playing in Oklahoma City next week. Pitchers Jocelyn Forest, who is tied for the league lead in wins (8) and strikeouts (110) and pitcher Leigh Ann Ellis (1.01 ERA) will be squaring off against team USA. The game will be televised next week on ESPN.
