Riptide named top af2 expansion team, win five more team awards

INDIANAPOLIS, IN â The San Diego Riptide took home six awards, including the arenafootball2's top team award, Expansion Franchise of the Year, at the Arena Football League's annual team award banquet Saturday evening.
The Riptide, one of 34 af2 teams, also won first place for their 2002 Media Guide, second place for their website, got third place awards for their Dance Team and Community Relations Project and the coveted af2 Photo of the Year. A full detail of the awards is listed at the bottom of this release.
"It's amazing to say that little more than seven months ago, we introduced the Riptide to the San Diego community and built a franchise worthy of these awards," said Riptide President/C.O.O. Gil Saidy. "We finished up the season on the field strong, winning our first playoff game and then nearly beating the eventual ArenaCup champions, then to go on and get six team awards is a great accomplishment that is truly dedicated to our Ironmen and women off the field â our administrative staff."
