Riptide Lose Opener

May 29, 2008 - National Pro Fastpitch (NPF)
New England Riptide News Release

May 29, 2008 Sterling, Va. - The New England Riptide and Washington Glory squared off at Westfield Softball Complex in Sterling, Va. tonight, the Glory attempting to become the first team ever to defend a NPF title and the Riptide trying to regain the title they lost last year. In the circle for the Glory was 2006 pitcher of the year Sarah Pauly and for the Riptide, Erica Beach. Beach is coming off a 6-2 2007 season.

Pauly was in top form tonight as she pitched six shutout innings scattering four hits as the Glory pulled out a 4-0 win. Pauly was relieved in the seventh by Sara Ferguson. The Glory scored all their runs in the second, all on home runs, first a three run shot by Jessica Moore followed by a solo from Sara Larquier.

Jocelyn Forest came on in relief of Beach in the third and was superb, shutting the Glory down on only one hit in four innings while striking out three. Meanwhile the Riptide bats struggled, mustering five hits, same as the Glory, but all singles. Lisa Modglin had two hits to go with a walk. Carri Martin, Jackie Pasquerella and Alex Sutton (in a pinch hitting role) had the others.

The Riptide and Glory play the second game of the four game series tomorrow night in Sterling at 7:05
