New England Riptide News Release

Lowell, MA- The New England Riptide and Chicago Bandits met for the second time this series and this time it was the Riptide that was unable to hold the lead into the seventh. Leading 3-2 after six, the Bandits relinquished four runs to drop game 2 by the score of 6-3. Starter Eileen Canney did not her control tonight as she walked eight Bandits, including Vicky Galindo three times and hitting her once. Like the night before the Riptide jumped out to a lead in the third. Shanel Scott, Lyndsey Angus and Garland Cooper each singled, and Jess Merchant walked. With Runners at first and third, Merchant faked a steal of second allowing Cooper to score on the throw down.

The Bandits got one back in the fourth as the walks finally came back to haunt Canney. With two outs walks to Stephanie Brown and Galindo were followed by a Stacy May single allowing Brown to score. Danielle Henderson finished the fourth, gave up another run in the fifth before Canney re-entered the game to pitch the sixth and seventh. Angus put the Riptide up 3-2 with a two out homerun off Bandit starter Jessica Sallinger (4-3). Sallinger had control trouble of her own, walking six in a complete game performance.

Canney was unable to put it away in the seventh giving up a leadoff seeing eye single to Meagan Willis to start the inning. Nicole Trimboli sacrificed Willis to second and Laura Harms singled hard to left. A good throw by Scott prevented the run from scoring, but only for a moment. A walk to Brown was followed by a walk to Galindo to tie the game. Canney's next pitch was a wild pitch allowing Harms to score to put the Bandits up 4-3. Jocelyn Forest was brought in to finish the game. She got May to ground to short but the throw to home was too late to cut down Brown. Later, Kristie Fox hit a fly to left to score Galindo before Forest got the last out.
