Los Angeles Riptide News Release

CARSON, CA (Tuesday, August 1, 2006) - The Los Angeles Riptide of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier outdoor lacrosse league, has announced that due to the inspiration of Chicago Machine defenseman Michael Culver the team will be making a donation to The Children's Heart Foundation. In a true gesture of sportsmanship, the Riptide will be matching the donation of the Machine's Culver, who will be giving half of his season salary to The Children's Heart Foundation as a result of the Riptide's 14-8 victory over the Machine on Saturday.

Last week, Chicago's Culver guaranteed a victory for the Machine (0-9) against the Los Angeles Riptide on July 29, which the Riptide won 14-8. With the loss, Culver will now donate half of his season's salary to the Children's Heart Foundation, a charity founded in Chicago and committed to the funding of research "to advance the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of congenital heart defects".

Culver, a captain of the 2006 NCAA National Champion Virginia Cavaliers (17-0), hoped his proposition will help to shed light on an important charity. Win or lose, Culver had planned to donate his game salary from Saturday to the Children's Heart Foundation. Culver has also challenged local Chicago residents to match his donation and help in the mission of The Children's Heart Foundation.

The Los Angeles Riptide will play their next game of the 2006 Major League Lacrosse season on Saturday, August 5 against the San Francisco Dragons at 1:00 pm at historic Kezar Stadium in San Francisco, CA. For more information, please call toll free 1-866-4LAXTIX.
