New England Riptide News Release

Allentown, PA- The New England Riptide finally put together some offense against the Philadelphia Force last night scoring 6 runs on nine hits, however the pitching fell apart as starter Erica Beach walked six batters and Danielle Henderson gave up a grand slam homerun to Trena Peel as the Riptide let this one slip away by a score of 7-6.

The Riptide took the lead in the second as Beach (2 for 3, walk) led off with her first home run of the year to take a 1-0 lead. KJ Kelley followed later that inning with a double and was driven in in by Lisa Iancin after a Jackie Pasquerella single put Kelley at third. The Riptide scored two more in the third to go up 4-0 and know out starter Stacy Birk. Brik was relieved by eventual winner Kristina Thorson (5-2).

The Force got two back on a controversial play in the third. With bases loaded, Jenna Hall hit a ground ball to first baseman Garland Cooper. Cooper went home, but the throw bounced off Hall for an error allowing two runs to score. Coach Sharon Drysdale argued for an interference call, but none was forthcoming as the score stood 4-2. Henderson came in to relieve Beach in the bottom of the fifth after Beach failed to retire the first two runners. When it was all over the Force had scored five runs to take a 7-4 lead, most of the damage being done on the Peel grand slam. The Riptide did make it interesting in the seventh and scored two to narrow the gap on hits by Shanel Scott, Lyndsey Angus and Beach who remained in the game as the DP. That was all the Riptide could muster as they fell for the fourth consecutive game to go to 12-11 on the year.

The Riptide look to salvage one game of the series tomorrow at 1:05 in Allentown and return to Lowell for a four game series with the Michigan Ice beginning Wednesday and continuing on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Martin Softball Field in Lowell
