New England Riptide News Release

May 30, 2008 Sterling, Va. - The New England Riptide and the Washington Glory met for the second time tonight. This time it was the Riptide that got the better of things as they evened the series with the Glory with a score of 6-2. Eileen Canney pitched a complete game for the Riptide while Carri Martin drove in two big runs in the second and rookie Carmen Paez belted her first home run.

The Riptide took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second, loading the bases with no out when Lyndsey Angus singled, Paez walked and Lisa Modglin singled. Shanel Scott, pinch running for Angus, scored the first run when Lisa Iancin grounded out to second. Then with two outs, runners at second and third, Martin hit her two RBI single. The Glory came back to score their two in the bottom of the inning. With Catalina Morris on first following a single, Stephanie Best homered to bring the score to 3-2.

In the third, the Riptide made it 5-2 courtesy of Paez. Both runs were unearned as Stephanie Best allowed a Gina Carbonatto ground ball to go through her legs, setting the stage for Paez. The Riptide added one more unearned run in the fifth to complete the scoring.

Canney struck out three in her first outing of the year while 2007 Pitcher of the Year, Desiree Serrano took the loss for the Glory in her first outing, allowing all six runs, three earned. The Riptide and Glory play the third game of the four game series tomorrow night in Sterling at 7:05
