New England Riptide News Release
Lowell, MA- The New England Riptide took the field for the final regular season home game tonight at Martin Softball Field, but not before a pre game ceremony honoring Riptide player and Leominster native, Lyndsey Angus.
The ceremony was great, however the game did not go the Riptide's way despite a two hitter pitched by Riptide starter Eileen Canney. Unfortunately for Canney and the Riptide both hits came in the fourth inning, the second being a homerun by Tracee McCoy. The blast scored Ihyia McMichael and would be all the Racers needed.
The Riptide made it interesting in the sixth and exited the crowd when Angus came up with Shanel Scott on second and Gina Carbonatto on first. Angus hit a blast off Radara McHugh who had just come in to relieve Jaimee Juarez (12-6). Angus hit a shot, but right into the glove of third baseman Norelle Dickson who quickly doubled Scott off of second.
Canney, aside from the homerun pitched a great game and increased her league leading strikeout total to 135 with the seven she had tonight.
The Riptide head off to Philadelphia to wrap up the season with a four game series against the Force before going to the playoffs in Kimberly, Wisconsin.
