Riptide drop 6-2 decision to Thunder
Rockford, Ill August 6th - The New England Riptide scored two runs in the first, however the Rockford Thunder came back to do the same and went on to win by a score of 6-2. Thunder starter Allison Kime (9-6) settled down to hold the Riptide, while Riptide starter, Jocelyn Forest (6-8) had problems throughout. Forest had been call six times in the first inning for illegal pitches that created a storm of controversy and might have caused her to alter her normal style.
The Riptide scored when Carri Martin led off the game with a walk. Lisa Modglin's single sent Martin to third and she scored on a sac fly by Lyndsey Angus. Modglin came home when Jessica Merchant singled. Rockford got their two when Amanda Williams singled and Lyndsey Gardner blasted her sixth homerun of the year.
The Thunder took a 3-2 lead in the third. Williams drew a one out walk and Tonya Callahan doubled to score Williams. Callahan was 2-3 on the night, both doubles and was robbed of a homerun by Gina Carbonatto in the first as she went over the fence to grab her line drive.
They put the game away in the sixth on hits by Gardner and Zaleski that eventually landed them at second and third with two outs. Savannah Brown then came up with the big hit, a two run double to give the Thunder a 5-2 lead and Jamie Davison singled to score Brown.
The Riptide complete the four game series against the Thunder on Thursday and then play a four game series in Chicago with the Bandits. The Riptide return home to Martin Softball Field on August 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th to wrap up the regular season against the first place Washington Glory.
