Los Angeles Riptide News Release

CARSON, CALIFORNIA - Wednesday, March 28, 2007 - The LA Riptide has traded defensive midfield specialist Dan Cocchi back to his hometown team, the Long Island Lizards, in exchange for Lizard attackman Wes Green, a third round 2008 college draft pick and a conditional 2007-08 supplemental draft pick.

"It is with mixed emotion that we move Danny to the Lizards," said Riptide general manager G.W. Mix. "He was a vital part of our team's leadership and defensive unit during our inaugural season. It will be a difficult task to replace his contributions. Danny's decision to move home to Long Island from Florida and pursue a career with the Port Authority Police weighed heavily on our collective decision to pursue a trade."

In return for sending the MLL all-star defensive middie to Long Island, the Riptide acquired the services of a potential future star in the MLL. Wes Green, a native of Adelaide, Australia was a three-time All-American attackman, two-time NCAA Division II Attackman of the Year, and 2006 NCAA Division II Player of the Year at Adelphi University on Long Island. Last summer, Green played for Australia in the 2006 ILF World Championships in London, Canada. Perhaps the best indication of his potential to become a goal scorer in the MLL was his impressive three-goal performance in the ILF semi-finals during a 12-9 loss to the United States.

In addition to Green, the Riptide also received Long Island's 2008 Third Round Collegiate draft pick and a conditional 2007-08 Supplemental draft pick. The conditions of the Supplemental pick, though not released, are tied to specific performance criteria for Green in 2007.

"We are very excited to add Wes to our roster for 2007," said Riptide head coach John Tucker. "He is a very dynamic young player and we believe he will develop into a significant threat for us on offense. Last season, Long Island had such a talented core group of offensive players, Wes never really had the opportunity after he was selected in the college draft to fully develop. I believe we will be able to better provide him opportunities to create offense against both middies and defensemen, making him a very valuable addition for us."

Green is currently living in northern California and playing for the San Jose Stealth of the NLL.

Prior to attending Adelphi University, Green was a member of West Torrens Lacrosse Club in Australia for 13 years. He also played cricket in high school and was a member of the South Australian National Championship team. Born March 6, 1982, he is the son of Gary and Linley Green. His hobbies include surfing.
