Rios pens deal with Long Island

(Central Islip, NY, July 20, 2005) - The Long Island Ducks, members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, today announced the signing of outfielder Armando Rios. The signing brings the total number of former major leaguers on the Ducks roster to 14.
"We are excited to be able to add a player of Armando's versatility to our team," says general manager Michael Hirsch. "He is a veteran player that will add depth and experience to our outfield corps."
Rios, a veteran of 419 major league games, owns a career .269 average with 36 home runs and 167 RBI. His finest season came in 2000 as a member of the San Francisco Giants, where he appeared in 115 games. That season, he hit 10 home runs and drove in 50 in 233 plate appearances. His most recent stop in the majors was in the 2003 season with the Chicago White Sox, where he appeared in 49 games and registered two home runs, three doubles and 11 RBI.
The Long Island Ducks, 2004 Atlantic League champions, play their home games at Citibank Park and are in their sixth season of play in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball.
