
Rio Grande Valley's Greg Smith Signs with Houston

NEW YORK, Feb. 8 2012 - The Houston Rockets today signed center Greg Smith of the Rio Grande Valley Vipers for the 21st GATORADE Call-Up of the 2011-12 NBA Development League season. Smith joins more than 90 NBA players with NBA D-League experience currently on 2011-12 rosters.
Smith (6-10, 250, Frseno State) returns to Houston where he appeared in two preseason games, averaging 1.5 points and 2.0 rebounds, before being waived on Dec. 22, 2011.
Announced as a 2012 NBA D-League All-Star this afternoon, Smith has appeared in 18 games for the Vipers this season, averaging 16.8 points and 8.3 rebounds in 28.3 minutes. He recorded seven double-doubles, including a season-high 28 points to go with 13 rebounds in a 125-120 win over the Sioux Falls Skyforce on Jan. 17.
Smith is expected to join the Rockets today and be available tonight when the team travels to play the Portland Trail Blazers.
