Saskatchewan Roughriders News Release
Saskatchewan Roughrider General Manager/Vice President of Football Operations Eric Tillman announced today they have signed import receivers Curtis Jackson and Joshua Tinch to one-year plus an option contracts. Financial details of the signings were not released.
Jackson is entering his third CFL season. In 2004, Jackson dressed in 11 regular season games with Ottawa and recorded 47 receptions for 527 yards and a touchdown. In 1999, he dressed in nine games with Hamilton and had five catches for 95 yards. Jackson has also spent time with St. Louis, New England, and Kansas City after a standout career at the University of Texas-Austin.
"Curtis was very productive for us in Ottawa and, according to Wally (Buono), almost made their team last year," stated Tillman. "And, the Lions group may have been the best in our league. Curtis is strong, runs good routes and we expect him to really push for a spot on our squad.
Tinch is entering his first CFL season after spending a portion of last year with the St. Louis Rams where he was signed as a free agent. Tinch was a star football player at the University of Louisville. The 24-year old was an All-Conference selection as a senior after a breakout senior season of 67 receptions for 855 yards, and four touchdowns.
"Josh was very productive at Louisville, and, given his size, will bring a physical and toughness dimension that, frankly, we've been lacking," stated Tillman. "He's also a great young man and has the kind of character we want to place a premium on."
"Kent is going to demand that our receivers understand the importance of blocking and being physical. If some of our returning guys don't do that on a more consistent basis, they'll be watching new guys like Curtis and Josh playing in green and white."
