Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
FRISCO - The RoughRiders racked up 11 runs over their final three times at bat for a 12-0 triumph and a series split with the Hooks Sunday evening in Frisco.
Following its 3-3 week in the Metroplex, Corpus Christi stands 11-5 in the last 16 games.
CC received another sterling start by Julio Robaina, who allowed one unearned run over five innings of work. Robaina struck out six, five looking, while scattering six singles and one walk.
Robaina has not permitted an earned run in his last two assignments, covering 10.0 innings pitched. In those starts, the Cuban southpaw has struck out 12 while walking two. Additionally, Robaina boasts a 2.18 ERA in his last five outings.
Upon Robaina's exit, Frisco struck for 11 runs on nine hits, six walks and three hit batsmen, sending nine men to the plate in each frame from the sixth through the eighth. The damage came against Jonathan Sprinkle, Chandler Casey and Jojanse Torres.
For the second time this season, the Hooks were forced to use a position player on the mound. Infielder Bryan Arias, who pitched twice last year at Class A Asheville, faced four batters and recorded the last two outs in the eighth.
A parade of six Riders pitchers limited CC to four hits, as the Hooks were blanked for the second time in the series. The first knock by the visitors was a two-out single by Shay Whitcomb in the sixth.
Corpus Christi returns to Whataburger Field for a Monday, July 4 contest with the Midland RockHounds, Double-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics. First pitch is 6:05 with right-hander Misael Tamarez taking the ball for the Hooks. Independence Day fireworks follow the opener of the six-game, seven-day series.
