Joliet JackHammers News Release
JOLIET, IL â The Joliet JackHammers and Rick's RV Center formed a unique partnership for the 2005 season. Fans visiting Silver Cross Field will enjoy the life and times of JackHammers outfielder Matt McCay. He will be living inside a Rick's RV provided Jayco trailer that will be parked on the grassy hill beyond the left field wall of the Silver Cross Field playing surface. The JackHammers begin their fourth season at 7:05 pm on Friday, May 20 versus the Gary SouthShore (IN) RailCats at Silver Cross Field in Joliet's City Center.
McCay will move into the trailer just prior to the start of the JackHammers spring training which is scheduled to begin with team physicals on May 4. A video presentation of McCay's life inside the trailer will be featured on the Silver Cross Field left field video board throughout the JackHammers season as an in-between inning promotion. Updates on McCay's experience will be in the team's e-mail newsletter and on the team's website throughout the season, too.
"I'm more excited about the RV than any part of any season, ever. It's going to be awesome! I'll never be late for BP [batting practice], and the bus trips are going to be easy to get on in the morning," said McCay.
"Rick's RV is looking forward to this relationship with the JackHammers. Camping is as American as baseball. This promotion also fits with the family theme of the JackHammers. For a minor leaguer, Matt will enjoy this luxurious experience," said Jeff Pilon, General Manager of Rick's RV.
Rick's RV Center, a family owned and operated business, has been serving the needs of camping enthusiasts since 1984. Rick's is the largest Jayco recreational vehicle dealer in Illinois. The business offers customers a full line of RVs from inexpensive pop-ups to 38 foot long trailers complete with microwave ovens, central air, and cable TV. With more than 100 trailers in stock, the customers always have a great selection to choose from. In addition to RVs, Rick's also carries the top names in truck caps, accessories, hitches and much more.
Rick's RV has received many national awards from Jayco, ranging from Rookie of the Year in 1989 to entrance into Jayco's exclusive Gold Club for excellent sales and customer service. Family is a key concept at Rick's. You will often be helped by either Rick's father Rich or by Rick's nephews Jeff, Mike and Brian. Rick's RV is located at the corner of I-55 and Route 52 in Joliet and at www.ricksrv.com.
LOOSE GRAVEL: The JackHammers traded outfielder Corey Paul and first baseman Gary Burnham to the independent Atlantic League's Bridgeport (Conn.) Bluefish for future considerations.
