Phoenix Rising FC News Release
PHOENIX - Today head coach Rick Schantz was named the USL Championship Coach of the Month for the month of June by the league. It's the second time Schantz has received the honor. He was the coach of the month in June of last season after taking over the team on an interim basis.
"It's an honor to be recognized by the league but, I'm my opinion, this award is recognition for hard work the players and staff put in over a short period of time," Schantz said. "Our goal is to put together as many months like June that it takes to win the Cup. While appreciated immensely, I know that we still have work to do. We won't rest until our goals are achieved."
In June, Schantz led the team to a perfect 5-0-0 record. The team outscored opponents 13-3 and collected three clean sheets in that stretch. He also led the team to its first full week at the top of the Western Conference table following a 3-0 win over Orange County SC on June 15 (the club has remained in first since). The club's only previous trip to the top of the table lasted less than a day near the end of last season. The five wins are part of an ongoing eight-game winning streak, also a club record.
Schantz and Phoenix Rising will return to league play this Saturday, July 13th, on the road against Rio Grande Valley FC. The match is scheduled to kickoff at 5:30 p.m. Fans can tune in on Your PHX CW on channels 6 & 61.1. The match will also be broadcasted live on ESPN Phoenix 620 AM and streamed live on ArizonaSports.com
Fans can also watch the match at one of two official watch party locations: CAZ Sports Bar in Casino Arizona or Crown Public House in Phoenix. Both locations are family friendly.
