Richmond Revolution News Release
RICHMOND, VA.: The Richmond expansion team of the Indoor Football League (IFL) announced at a press conference Wednesday afternoon, August 12, that the organization has acquired former University of Richmond DL Sherman Logan. Logan (6'3", 241 lbs.) is a quick defensive end that also played occasionally as a linebacker in college. While preparing for the NFL draft in 2009 Logan was clocked between 4.68 and 4.78 seconds in the 40 yard dash. He recently finished playing with the Milwaukee Iron of the af2, seeing time in 6 games. He totaled 10 tackles (4.5 TFL) and 3 sacks in limited action.
Logan entered his senior season ('08) at the University of Richmond as one of four senior captains, a starter at defensive end, and a 2008 Sports Network Preseason Third Team All-American. He finished the year with 51 total tackles (12.5 TFL), 6 sacks, 1 forced fumble and 1 blocked kick. He was one of the Defensive stars that led the Spiders to their FCS National Championship, the first in school history. He began 2007 as a preseason All CAA (Colonial Athletic Association) Football Selection. During 2007 however, Logan broke his foot and missed the majority of the season, compiling only 16 tackles (2.0 TFL).
In 2006, Logan was a Third Team All-Atlantic 10 selection, tallying 52 tackles (10.0 TFL), 3 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, and a safety, Richmond's first since '04. Logan's standout playing career began in 2005 when he was named the Atlantic 10 Defensive Rookie of the Year due to his incredible play throughout the season. In 2005 Logan established what would eventually be his career highs in every major defensive category: 54 tackles (13.5 TFL) and 11 sacks as well as 1 fumble recovery.
Logan's outstanding high school career was capped off by being named Virginia Beach 2002 Defensive Player of the Year, earning All-Virginia Beach, All-Tidewater and All-Region honors. His senior season saw him record 98 total tackles and 17 sacks under head coach Jeff Beard.
"Sherman is an outstanding young man. We are thrilled to have him be the first player we bring into our new organization. We're very excited to see what he can do on the field, and proud to have him playing back in Richmond." stated SportsQuest Vice President of Pro Sports Operations and Assistant General Manager, Charlie Hildbold.
SportsQuest, a multi-level sports organization, signed a letter of intent in June to become the newest member of the Indoor Football League. SportsQuest is in the process of building 250 acre multi-purpose, multi-sport campus in the Chesterfield area of Virginia. The campus is designed to host athletics of all skill levels, from recreational to Olympic training. Among their plans is the creation of a 5,000 seat arena that will house hockey, basketball, and indoor football. The arena will be up and running by 2011, but the expansion IFL franchise will begin play during the 2010 season in the Arthur Ashe Center.
