Chicago Storm News Release

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. - Chicago Storm goalkeeper Jeff Richey had a career-best season in 2007-2008 and helped the U.S. Futsal National Team advance to the FIFA Futsal World Cup during the off-season. Chalk up another grand accomplishment for Richey this year.

Richey joins the Class of 2008 for the Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne Athletics Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony takes place on Saturday, Nov. 22. The IPFW graduate and Fort Wayne, Ind., native played for the Mastodons from 1997 to 2000.

In 1999, Richey led IPFW to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament while posting a remarkable 0.38 goals-against average, and he earned First Team All-Great Lakes Valley Conference, All-Midwest Region and All-American accolades. The 1999 season remains the IPFW men's soccer team's lone NCAA Tournament appearance to date.

"That was huge for our school," Richey said of the 1999 season. "I had the second-lowest goals-against average in the country, so it was special. We were a bunch of guys from Fort Wayne who just had a good time. We played on many of the same club teams throughout high school, so we knew each other really well."

The IPFW Class of 2008 includes Richey, women's volleyball player Julie Hefty-Price and men's volleyball player Jeff Ptak. The IPFW Athletics Hall of Fame was established in 2006 to celebrate the accomplishments of special indviduals who have enhanced and reinforced the university's commitment to excellence.

During the Storm's 2007-2008 season, Richey set career highs in games started (19), minutes played (1,030:20), saves (197) and wins (10). He established a Storm record with 16 straight regular-season victories from March 19, 2006, to Dec. 14, 2007. Richey enters the Storm's 2008-2009 Xtreme Soccer League season with the highest career save percentage in team history at 0.713.

The Chicago Storm organization enters its fifth season of professional indoor soccer. Chicago's 2008-2009 Xtreme Soccer League season kicks off with a road game at New Jersey on Sunday, Dec. 14, and the Storm's home opener takes place at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, against Milwaukee at the Sears Centre Arena.
