Reno 1868 FC News Release
RENO, Nev. - Reno 1868 FC has re-signed defender Brent Richards for the 2020 season, pending league and federation approval. Richards has been a part of the club since 2017, Reno's inaugural season. Richards is the club's all-time leader in games played (89) and starts (87), and is fourth in career assists (13).
"We're really excited to have Brent back," said head coach Ian Russell. "He's been a mainstay in the back line since the start of it. He's a really good attacking outside back, and brings a lot of experience to the locker room."
In 2019, Richards tallied five assists in 31 starts. Richards was one of just three players to serve as captain on the season, wearing the armband in 11 matches. In week 28, the outside back was named to the USL's Team of the Week after tallying a club-record three assists in a 5-0 win over Tacoma. The stellar performance marked a career-high for assists in a single match, and snapped a four-match losing streak for Reno.
"I couldn't be happier to be coming back to Reno 1868 FC for a fourth season," said Richards. "The way that the community has embraced this club makes it a really special place to play. I can't wait to get started again on working towards winning a championship for this city in 2020."
In 2019, Richards led the club in clearances (95), interceptions (68) and was second in tackles with 45. Richards' 210 duels won were tops in the club, and his 17 blocks were third.
