GAME PREVIEW
Birmingham Legion FC is 2W-6L-8T in the 2026 regular season and is winless in nine-straight league games dating back to its 3-1 victory over Rhode Island FC on May 2. In that span, the Alabama club has scored just seven goals and has been blanked twice. Its only other win during the regular season came in a 1-0 victory against defending champions Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC on April 12. Through 16 regular-season games, Birmingham has scored 17 goals, tied for the second-fewest in the league, and currently sits in 11th place in the Eastern Conference standings. Veteran striker Tyler Pasher leads the club with four goals this season, while goalkeeper Jassem Koleilat ranks third in the USL Championship with 56 saves.
Fueled by a five-save performance from goalkeeper Koke Vegas and a second-half goal from JJ Williams, Rhode Island FC defeated the defending champions on the road last time out in a 1-0 victory at Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC on July 25. The win saw the Ocean State club string together back-to-back shutout victories for the first time in the 2026 regular season, building on a 1-0 derby win vs. regional rivals Hartford Athletic on July 18. The pair of wins shot the Ocean State club into sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings, with a chance to win three-straight league games for just the third time in club history and the first time since 2024. After beginning the month of July below the playoff line, RIFC can bring itself within two points of a home playoff position with a win in Birmingham.
