Rochester Rhinos News Release

(Carey, N.C.)... The Rochester Raging Rhinos have announced that the team will square off against D.C. United of Major League Soccer on Monday, July 11th at 7:30 p.m. at the SAS Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.

This will be the first professional soccer game at the park since the Carolina Courage of the Women's United Soccer Association suspended operations in September 2003. The announcement was made earlier today at a news conference at SAS Soccer Park.

Last season, 14,426 fans watched the Rhinos fall to D.C. United 2-0 at Frontier Field. United forward Jamie Moreno and phenom midfielder Freddy Adu each scored in the victory. Last season, United captured their fourth MLS Cup by defeating the Kansas City Wizards 3-2. This season's roster continues to have some of the top players in MLS wearing the "black and red." Along with Adu and Moreno, DC features midfielders Christian Gomez and MLS Cup MVP Alecko Eskandarian. United also features former Greece Athena High School product Dema Kovalenko.

"Anytime we can expose our game and our league to potential new markets, we are more than willing to participate," Rhinos Vice President and General Manager Chris Economides said. "SAS Soccer Park is obviously a great venue and we look forward to a great match."

SAS Soccer Park (originally called State Capital Soccer Park) opened in May 2002 and includes a 7,000-seat stadium, seven fields, locker rooms, concessions, and a nationally recognized, competitive cross-country course. The facilities are on 150 acres that the State of North Carolina leased to Wake County Government, which built the facilities using $14.5 million in countywide hotel room and prepared food and beverage taxes. In August of 2004, the Town of Cary agreed to Wake County's request to take over the operation and maintenance of the facilities, which are just inside Cary's eastern town limits.

"We're excited about the match and the opportunity it brings to showcase SAS Soccer Park as the perfect venue for a professional soccer team to once again call home," said Town of Cary Mayor Ernie McAlister.

Individual tickets are now available for $10.00, $15.00, and $20.00 in advance. Ticket prices will increase $2.00 in each price range the day of the match.
