Vancouver Whitecaps News Release
Whitecaps forward Jason Jordan, defender Steve Kindel and goalkeeper Mike Franks were all named to USL First Division Team of the Week today. Last Sunday the Whitecaps defeated the Atlanta Silverbacks 4-1 in front of 4,872 fans at Swangard Stadium.
Jordan, who made the Team of the Week for the second consecutive week, scored three goals against Atlanta before being subbed out in the 60th minute. Jordan opened the scoring in the 15' on a great feed by Joey Gjertsen. Alfredo Valente sprung Jordan in 30' for his second goal and Jordan completed the hat-trick in the 50', which was also set-up by Gjertsen.
Jordan now has 64 goals and 35 assists in his career, for 163 points, moving him ahead of John Catliff (79 goals, 2 assists, 160 points) into second place on the team's all-time scoring list and behind only Domenic Mobilio (170 goals, 25 assists, 365 points). Catliff however played most of his career in the Canadian Soccer League which did not award assists.
Whitecaps Ironman Steve Kindel had another solid outing on defence while also contributing to the Whitecaps transition game. Kindel made a great pass to Gjertsen in the 54' for the Whitecaps fourth and final goal of the match. Sunday was Kindel's 41st consecutive game.
Lastly, goalkeeper Mike Franks was also named to the Team of the Week. In addition to the eight saves Franks made against Atlanta, he made the initial pass in three of Vancouver's four goals. Franks' shutout streak to start the season of 446 minutes was snapped in the 87'.
The Whitecaps head into this weekend looking to continue their five-game undefeated streak, 3-0-2. The Caps will host the Virginia Beach Mariners on Seniors Night, Friday, May 27. Seniors will receive special ticket prices in all price categories as well as special giveaways. The Caps complete the week in Minnesota on Sunday, May 29, versus the Thunder.
