
Rhinos Sign Goalkeeper Tim Melia To One-Year Deal

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Rhinos announced today that the club has signed goalkeeper Tim Melia to a one-year deal with a one-year option for the 2009 season.
"Tim has greatly impressed us with his enthusiasm, tenacity and work ethic," said Rhinos head coach Darren Tilley. "He will certainly be a great addition as we continue our efforts to put a championship caliber team on the field."
The 6-foot-0 native of Great River, NY comes to the Rhinos after finishing his second year at Lynn University. In his senior year, Melia started in all 18 games with Lynn, going 14-2-1 with eight shutouts. Prior to Lynn, Melia attended Oneonta State for two years, earning a .809 save percentage in his freshman year. His total college record stands at 42-24-5 with 25 shutouts.
Melia's senior year was packed with honors, including the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-SSC, Daktronics Second Team All-South Region, NSCAA First Team Academic All-South Region and NSCAA First Team Academic All-America. Melia led the SSC in GAA and shutouts and was fourth for save percentage.
The Rhinos kickoff their preseason on Wednesday, April 9th at 7:00 p.m. as they head to Corning Memorial Stadium to take on the Bonnies from St. Bonaventure University in a friendly exhibition matchup.
PAETEC Park will host its first contest of the 2008 season as Rochester returns home for a 6:00 p.m. meeting with Hartwick University the evening of Monday, April 14th. The Rhinos remain in the friendly confines of PAETEC Park as they welcome Syracuse University for a 6:00 p.m. exhibition the evening of Wednesday, April 16th.
The Rhinos begin their 13th season on Friday, May 2nd at 7:30 p.m. in Charleston, SC, as they take on the two-time USL-1 champion Charleston Battery at Blackbaud Stadium. Rochester opens its 2008 home slate at PAETEC Park on Saturday, May 17th against Charleston at 7:35 p.m.
