ROCHESTER, NY - After fifteen days between matches, the Rochester Rhinos, winners of six of their last seven, returned to action against the Tampa Bay Rowdies at Marina Auto Stadium. The Rhinos entered the match chasing the Austin Aztex for first place in the USL Conference. Austin entered the night one point up on Rochester and possessed two games in hand.

Rochester posed the first real threat in the 12th minute when Anthony Hamilton fed a ball low into the box to Darren Spicer. Spicer's cross found the head of Tyler Rosenlund whose attempt was swallowed up by Tampa netminder Josh Lambo.

Rochester's Isaac Kissi nearly made it 2-0 in the 32nd minute but Lambo was again up to the challenge. In the 41st Hamilton flicked a ball onto himself beating Pascal Millien took Hamilton down in the box which resulted in a penalty kick. Jonathan Greenfield converted the PK for his first goal of the season and a 1-0 Rochester lead. The Rhinos would add to their lead in three minutes later when Kissi finished off a feed from Rosenlund for his team-high sixth tally of the season.

Minutes into the second stanza the Rhinos turned up the pressure as Darren Spicer fired an 18 yard shot that beat Lambo but was stopped by the goalpost to his left. Spicer wouldn't relent however as he stole the ball then fed Alfonso Motagalvan at the top of the 18. Motagalvan dealt the ball to Rosenlund who calmly found the back of the net to make the score 3-0

In the 66th minute Rochester netminder Neal Kitson left the match with an injury and was replaced by Scott Vallow. Vallow made two saves in relief of Kitson to preserve the shutout.

The Rochester defense clamped down on the Rowdies holding them to ten shots offensively. The three goals for the Rhinos equaled a season high.

With the Austin loss at Puerto Rico the Rhinos move into first overall position in the league despite Austin having two games in hand still.

Rochester will return to action on Friday, September 17 when they host Miami FC on Fan Appreciation night at Marina Auto Stadium.
