
Rhinos Open Training Camp Sunday

Rochester Rhinos News Release
(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Rhinos announced today that the soccer club will open its 2008 Training Camp on Sunday, March 30th at 4:00 p.m. at PAETEC Park (weather permitting). Rochester opens its 2008 season United Soccer Leagues First Division schedule on Friday, May 2nd at 7:30 p.m. in Charleston, SC, as they take on the two-time USL-1 champion Charleston Battery at Blackbaud Stadium. Rochester opens its 2008 home slate at PAETEC Park on Saturday, May 17th against Charleston at 7:35 p.m.
The Rhinos will also practice at PAETEC Park from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. and from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Monday, March 31st and Tuesday, April 1st. The Rhinos will release the remainder of the training schedule earlier next week.
On Wednesday, the Rhinos named Darren Tilley the third coach in team history. On Friday, Stephen Guppy was introduced as the Rhinos' player/assistant coach. Tilley, 41, returns to the Rhinos, where he played from 1998 to 2000. He was one of the catalysts in helping the franchise win an A-League title (1998) and a U.S. Open Cup championship (1999). During his career in Rochester, he played in 51 regular season matches and recorded 26 goals and 12 assists for 64 points.
Guppy, 38, brings with him to Rochester over 15 years of professional experience in the highest levels of competitive soccer in Europe and North America. A native of Winchester, England, Guppy's began his career and made his first appearance on the soccer scene, making his debut with Southampton in 1989 as a member of the reserve squad.
