Rhinos Kickoff Week With Open Cup Tilt

(Rochester, NY)...The Rochester Rhinos, coming off a scoreless draw at home on Saturday against the Minnesota Thunder will return to action on Tuesday, June 9 when they host the Pittsburgh Riverhounds in U.S. Open Cup tournament play at Marina Auto Stadium.

The Rhinos, 4-4-2 in USL-1 play have recorded a 21-10-3 record in tournament play since 1996 and remain the only lower division team to capture the nation's oldest tournament since the inception of Major League Soccer in 1996.

Tuesday will be the third time the two teams have squared off in Open Cup play, with Rochester winning the previous two matches. The first of those matches came in 2000 when the defending cup champion Rhinos knocked off then USL-1 Pittsburgh 2-1 at Bethel Park Stadium in Pittsburgh. Last season, Rochester defeated the Riverhounds 3-0 at home to advance to the third round where they eventually fell to D.C. United. Pittsburgh is currently last at 2-3-2 in USL-2 play.

Tickets for the U.S. Open Cup match are available at the Marina Auto Stadium Box Office or at www.ticketmaster.com. Admission for children ten and under is free in honor of the tenth anniversary of the Rhinos U.S. Open Cup title.

Fans interested in attending the Rhinos match can purchase a Family Four Pack (four Endzone tickets) for $19.99 or for the same price will receive one game ticket in the Famous Dave's Corner Kick Lounge and receive three 16 oz. Labatts Blue Drafts and all-you-can-eat wings.

Tuesday is also the debut of Saranac Weekdays featuring $2.00 Utica Club on Tuesday and Wednesday home matches.

Following Tuesday's match the Rhinos will return to USL play when they travel to face the Cleveland City Stars in a 7:00 p.m. match. The Rhinos defeated the Stars 3-0 May 1. Cleveland is 1-7-2 so far in their first ten matches since joining the first division. The club won the USL-2 title a year ago.
