July 18, 2013 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Rochester Rhinos News Release

The Rochester Rhinos host the Wilmington Hammerheads in Sahlen's Stadium on Friday, July 19th 2013 at 7:35PM. Then the club travels to Montreal for a match with the Montreal Impact Reserves at Saputo Stadium on Sunday, July 21st at 2PM.

Rochester is unbeaten in their last eight matches at Sahlen's Stadium, but they have only taken 12 of a possible 24 points because they have played to a draw six times during the streak. The Rhinos enter the weekend ten points out of the eighth and final playoff spot in the USL PRO table with seven matches left to play. Rochester has never failed to make the playoffs since the club was formed in 1996.

New England Revolution winger Gabe Latigue was injured in training on Monday morning at Sahlen's Stadium. Latigue flew back to Boston for an evaluation and will be unavailable this weekend. Latigue had the assist on Andrew Hoixe's game tying goal in the 90th minute of the Rhinos 1:1 draw with undefeated Richmond on July 12th. He has played 871 minutes in 16 matches with Rochester this season, and he has recorded two assists. Latigue is one of four New England Revs players on a season-long loan to Rochester.

Rochester Rhinos Head Coach Pat Ercoli will look to new signing Pierre-Rudolph Mayard to fill the void left by the loss of Latigue. Mayard previously played with the Montreal Impact and Charleston Battery from 2009 to 2011. He made 20 appearances for Montreal in USL1 and the NASL in 2009 and 2011. Mayard scored five goals in 16 appearances during a loan spell with Charleston in 2010. The 6'1", 25 year old midfielder made 31 appearances with the Canadian Youth Men's National Team from 2005 to 2007. Mayard's signing is pending approval from both USL PRO and U.S. Soccer.

Wilmington enters the match in tenth place in the table - six points out of the final playoff spot with eight matches left to play. The Hammerheads are currently on a good run of form with a 3 - 1 - 2 record in their last six matches. Wilmington is led by Daniel Steres, whose six goals and one assist are good for 13 points - the 12th best total in USL PRO. Rochester defeated Wilmington 1:0 in their first meeting of the season. New England Revs striker Matt Horth scored the only goal of the match in the 79th minute, and goalkeeper Kristian Nicht made three saves to keep the clean sheet.

On Sunday, July 21st the Rochester Rhinos travel to Montreal to play the Montreal Impact Reserves at 2PM in Saputo Stadium. The fixture is part of the groundbreaking partnership Major League Soccer and USL PRO entered into during the off-season that gives every MLS Reserve team a home-and-home series with a USL PRO team. The Rhinos played to a 1:1 draw with the Impact Reserves in Sahlen's Stadium in their first meeting back on June 6th. Striker Thomas Kelly McManus scored off of an assist from 2012 Rhinos MVP JC Banks in the 19th minute, but Karl Ouimette found the equalizer for the visitors in the 86th minute. The result of Sunday's match will count in the standings for both clubs in their respective league tables.

The Rochester Rhinos will host the Wilmington Hammerheads in their next home match on Friday, July 19th at 7:35PM in Sahlen's Stadium. Individual tickets are currently available, and they can be purchased by calling (585)454-KICK (5425), by visiting the MVP Health Care Box Office at Sahlen's Stadium, or by visiting ticketmaster.com.
