Charlotte Eagles News Release

Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte Eagles are looking to extend their current nine-game unbeaten streak when the Dayton Dutch Lions come to town on Saturday, July 20th. Charlotte is tied with Los Angeles for 3rd place in the USL PRO standings on 32 points.

The Eagles are coming off a 3-2 victory over the Wilmington Hammerheads last Saturday. The Hammerheads struck first in the 6th minute as Daniel Steres continued his run of form by capitalizing on a miscommunication between the Eagles defense. Newly signed Paul Islas scored his second goal in three games to tie the game at 1-1 with 15 minutes to go in the first half. Wilmington took the lead again as Kyle Greig's header beat Eric Reed in the 63rd minute. Jorge Herrera took a flick-on header from Fejiro Okiomah and knotted the game at 2-2 just five minutes after Greig's goal. Herrera was a part of the game winning goal in the 84th minute as he took an outlet pass from Samuel Asante and found Christian Meza alone in the front of the net to give the Eagles the three points.

Dayton will come to Charlotte after scoring an 89th minute equalizer against league-leaders Orlando City SC on Sunday, July 14th. The Dutch Lions will also play in Charleston on Friday, July 19th before traveling to Charlotte to play the Eagles on Saturday.

The Eagles and Dutch Lions played to a 2-2 draw earlier this season in Dayton, OH. Christian Ramirez opened the scoring in the 22nd minute. Dayton equalized late in the first half when Joel Delass converted a penalty kick in the 45th minute. Jorge Herrera scored in the 63rd to give the Eagles their second lead of the day but Shane Smith was able to find the game tying goal in the 85th minute to give the hosts a point in the contest.

In partnership with Love Week in Charlotte the Eagles are excited to announce that this Saturday's game will be a Faith Night. There will be a special Love Week Event before the game and a player testimony after the game, for any questions about how to get involved with the Love Week event call Allan Courtright at 704-841-8644 ext 30.
