(Rochester, NY)... Rochester Rhinos goalkeeper Scott Vallow announced his plans to retire from professional soccer today.

Vallow retires after nine seasons (2000-02, 2005-10) in goal for Rochester and is the club's all-time leader in wins (83) and shutouts (34). He also ranks in the top three all-time in regular season starts (168), appearances (166) and minutes played (15,053).

"I'd like to thank the Rhinos Organization for allowing me to live out my dream of becoming a professional soccer player" said Vallow. "Every time I put on the Rhinos jersey, I was very proud to be a part of such a great tradition. I wish the organization nothing but the best in the future."

"I'd also like to thank my family for all their sacrifices over the past 12 years and all the Rochester fans that have shown their support for me and my family both on and off the field."

The 33-year old originally joined the Rhinos prior to the 2000 season and led the club to the 2000 and 2001 A-League championships. He was voted the league's Goalkeeper of the Year following the 2000 season. Following the 2002 season the Modesto, CA native left the Rhinos to play in Major League Soccer.

After spending 2003-04 with the Colorado Rapids, Vallow returned to Rochester in 2005. The 2006 season saw the former team caption once again lead the club to the finals which ended in a 3-0 loss to the Vancouver Whitecaps.

"Scott played a significant role in the success of our franchise both on and off the field and over the past decade he's been one of the premier goalkeepers in the USL. His dedication will be missed," said Rhinos President and COO Pat Ercoli.

Vallow will begin the next chapter of his career as an assistant coach with the Western New York Flash of the WPS beginning in 2011.
