Rhinos Fall to Orlando City B
May 22, 2016 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Rochester Rhinos News Release
The Rhinos traveled south this weekend to face Orlando City B for the first time this season. The Rhinos last regular season game ended in a 0-0 draw against the Charlotte Independence. Unfortunately for the Rhinos, Orlando City B seemed to dominate play in their first meeting of the season.
The Rhinos came out strong in the first half with shots on goal by Dos Santos and Totsch, but from there seemed to lose their footing. Orlando dominated the later portion of the first half, putting Rhinos goalkeeper Adam Grinwis to the test. In the 21' minute Griniws made a very acrobatic save protecting the Rhinos net, but he couldn't hold on for long as it soon became 0-1 in favor of Orlando City B.
A late goal from City's Hadji Barry came after a poor touch in the midfield for the Rhinos. The referee played advantage to Orlando after a physical play and Barry sent the ball to the back of the net. The goal was only the sixth goal let in by the Rhinos so far this season.
The second half started out very slow for both teams, not slow enough for the Rhinos to catch up as City quickly extended their lead to two in the 56' minute. Again, Hadji Barry curled a low shot into the far post from about twenty yards out. The seventh goal allowed all season by the Rhinos would be enough to seal their fate tonight.
The strongest opportunity for Rochester came in the 68'minute with a cross from Ugarte who found Guilavogui, but his shot was wide. Both players came in as subs in the second half, hoping to bring new life to the pitch for Rochester. Rochester seemed to wake up in the second half, but couldn't find the back of the net.
A foul in the 86' minute on Rochester's Forbes led to a free kick by Dos Santos. The Rhinos cut Orlando's lead to one with only four minutes left in the half. The goal is Dos Santos' first goal of the season. Unfortunately, that was all the Rhinos could do as Orlando City B gained their third win of the season.
Orlando improved to 3-5-2 (11 points) and Rochester fell to 4-2-2 (14 points).
The Rhinos face Bethlehem Steel FC at Rochester Rhinos Stadium this Saturday at 6:05 p.m.
