Last weekend in review

The Killer Bees suffered a 5-3 loss on the road last Friday to Odessa Jackalopes but bounced back the following night with a 3-2 shootout win over the Lone Star Brahmas.

Aleksi Luhtalampi and Kevin Clare scored goals in the first period against Lone Star while Anthony Croston scored the eventual game-winner in the shootout. Goalie Nick Schmit picked up his fourth win of the season in the victory over the Brahmas.

Greiner named South Division 2nd Star of the Week

Forward Ben Greiner was named the South Division 2nd Star of the Week Monday for his play last weekend. Greiner recorded three points (1G, 2A) and was plus-2 in two games last weekend. Greiner has 28 points on the season, which ties him for the sixth most in the league.

In addition, Croston was selected as an honorable mention pick. He recorded an assist and notched the game-winning goal against the Brahmas in a shootout.

Bees trade for Dedenbach

Forward Jared Dedenbach is the most recent addition to RGV's lineup. He made his debut last weekend, recording one assist in two games. Dedenbach began the season with the Bismarck Bobcats, where he notched five points (2G, 3A) in 18 games.

To get Dedenbach, the Bees traded forward Nathan Flynn to the Bobcats. An NAHL veteran, Flynn recorded 10 points (4G, 6A) in 24 games with the Bees this season.

"He plays hard and skates well," Killer Bees coach Joe Coombs said of Dedenbach. "He's an upgrade, and that's no knock against Flynner. We're happy with the move, but very disappointed to see Flynn leave."

South Division log jam

The Bees enter this weekend's series in a 3-way tie for second place in the South Division with Wichita Falls and Topeka. Amarillo leads the division with 41 points.

Greiner, Mostrom, Schmit mentioned for players of the month

Greiner, Sean Mostrom and Schmit were named honorable mention picks for players of the month in November. Greiner recorded 10 points in 10 games in November. Two of his goals were game-winners, and he was also plus-three in the month. A defenseman, Mostrom notched five points (1G, 4A) in November. Schmit went 4-3 in November with a goals-against average of 1.71 and a save percentage of .906. On Nov. 22, he made 25 saves and earned a shutout against Amarillo, the league's current point leader.

Enjoy the Holidays with the Bees

The Bees have a trio of home games at the State Farm Arena over the holidays. On Saturday, Dec. 28 the RGV will host Corpus Christi at 7:05 p.m. The Bees will also host the Lone Star Brahmas on Friday, Jan. 3 and Saturday, Jan. 4. Both games are slated to start at 7:05 p.m.

Pink at the rink

The Bees will host their first annual Pink at the Rink game presented by Doctors Hospital at Renaissance Saturday.

During the game the Killer Bees will wear custom pink jerseys in honor of those who have been affected by cancer. Fans will have an opportunity to purchase the jersey through a silent and live auction Saturday. Proceeds from jersey sales will benefit the Renaissance Cancer Foundation. The Renaissance Cancer Foundation is a nonprofit organization in the Rio Grande Valley that assists cancer patients in the local community.

Teddy bear toss

In addition to Pink at the Rink, the Bees will also host its first ever teddy bear toss Saturday.

A teddy bear toss is a popular hockey tradition held throughout the United States and Canada during the holidays. Fans are asked to bring teddy bears to the game and throw them onto the ice once the Bees score their first goal. The toys will be collected and donated to Toys for Tots and other local charities for distribution to less fortunate children in the local community.

Bees vs. Wildcats

The Bees are 3-2-1 against the Wildcats this season. ... RGV has won three straight games over Wichita Falls. ... Evan Schmidbauer leads the Bees against the Wildcats with five points (4G, 1A). ... Olli Kalkaja has started all six games against the Wildcats, posting a goals-against average of 1.79 and a save percentage of .926. ... Jordan Jancze, Andrew Kerr and Colin Staub lead the Wildcats with four points apiece against the Killer Bees.
