
Eagles Collect a Point at Home against the Warriors

The Soo Eagles earned a precious point in the standings, as they fell in a shootout to the Michigan Warriors on Wednesday night, at Pullar Stadium. Here is a recap of the latest action.
Michigan 4, Soo Eagles 3 (OT Shootout) - Wednesday, December 4, 2013
It took arriving late after a mechanical problem on their bus and then 52 shots on goal, but the Michigan Warriors finally were able to pull out a 4-3 road win in a shootout against the Soo Eagles in the lone NAHL game on Wednesday night.
The two teams traded goals in the 1st period with Soo taking a 1-0 lead on a goal from Matt Menta, only to be answered by Michigan's Jon Farkas. Shots were also even at 12-12.
Michigan took a 2-1 lead with a goal early in the 2nd period from Tyler Groat. However, the Eagles would respond with a pair of goals from Bruno Birzitis, who gave Soo a 3-2 lead with goals that were seven minutes apart. Sandis Zolmanis and Derek Lodermeier would pick up assists on both of the Birzitis markers.ÃâàMichigan held a 28-26 shots advantage after two periods.
The 3rd period saw the Warriors launch 21 shots on goal at Soo Eagles goaltender Colin Brennan.ÃâàOne would finally get through as Jake Faiella scored midway through the frame and the game would eventually head to overtime and then a shootout.
In the shootout, Colin Larkin scored the lone goal out of the 10 combined shooters to secure the win for Michigan who improved their record to 12-7-6 with the win. With the shootout loss, the Eagles fell to 8-13-5 on the season.
Michigan goalie Trevor Gorsuch made 36 saves in the win and stopped all five shooters in the shootout, while Brennan made 48 saves in the losing effort.
Coulee Region Chill 6, Soo Eagles 3Ãâà- Saturday, November 23, 2013
The Coulee Region Chill's James McGing had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist, in his team's 6-3 win over the Soo Eagles, completing the sweep on Saturday night.
McGing scored at 28 seconds into the second period to make the score 3-1 Coulee Region and again, 5:44 into the third,to make the score 5-1 Coulee Region.
Coulee Region additionally got points from Ondrej Zehnal, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Coulee Region also had goals scored by Jesse Tredinnick, Blake Kelley, and Cam Bleck, who each put in one. In addition, Coulee Region received assists from Adam Lovick, who had two, Richard Zehnal, who had three, and Dunk Abbott, Brogran Rafferty, and Brett Bukowski, who each chipped in one.
Coulee Region was unable to stop the Soo from sending pucks towards the net, and the Eagles eventually piled up 38 shots on goal.
The Soo was led by Bruno Birzitis, who tallied two goals. Birzitis scored the first of his two goals at 14:45 into the third period to make the score 5-2 Coulee Region. Sandis Zolmanis provided the assist. Birzitis' next tally made the score 5-3 Coulee Region with 4:07 left in the third period. Zolmanis picked up the assist. Soo also got a goal from Jacob McDowell as well. Other players who recorded assists for Soo were Brad Pung and Derek Lodermeier, who contributed one a piece.
Adam Carlson rejected 35 shots on goal for the Chill. Coulee Region incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. AJ Smith recorded 34 saves for the Eagles. Soo incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
Coulee Region Chill 6, Soo Eagles 1 - Friday, November 22, 2013
The Soo Eagles had trouble finding ways to stop the Coulee Region Chill, which beat Eagles, 6-1, on Friday night in Coulee Region.
Coulee Region was led by goalie Adam Carlson, who finished with 27 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Carlson will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.11.
The Chill were led by Adam Lovick, who racked up one goal. Lovick scored on the power play 18:36 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Coulee Region. A slashing penalty on Kristofers Bindulis had put Coulee Region on the power play. Mac Jansen picked up the assist.
Coulee Region also got points from Jesse Tredinnick, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Jansen, who also had one goal and two assists. James McGing also scored for Coulee Region. In addition, Coulee Region received assists from Eddie Matsushima, who had two, Richard Zehnal, who had three, and Sean Kalbak and Ondrej Zehnal, who each chipped in one.
