EDINBURG, Texas - Rio Grande Valley FC (14-13-7, 49 pts) closed out regular season action on Saturday, October 15 with a 4-1 victory over Monterey Bay Union FC at H-E-B Park. The win and early results from across the league clinched the Toros a playoff berth as the sixth seed in the Western Conference.
The Western Conference Quarterfinal match will take place on Saturday, October 22 at Weidner Field as the third seeded Switchbacks prepare to host sixth seeded Rio Grande for the second time this campaign, kickoff is at 7:30pm CST. The 2022 USL Championship Playoffs are presented by Hisense.
The 2022 season series between RGV FC and Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC is currently deadlocked at 1-1-0 after the Toros claimed a 1-0 home victory on September 17 to even things out after a 3-2 road loss on Cinco de Mayo, May 5.
Since becoming an independent club in 2021, RGV FC have qualified to the postseason in both years, a historic achievement for the franchise. Sporting Director Wilmer Cabrera made it clear all season, the goal is making the post-season and everyone bought into it despite signs of trouble midway through.
