EDINBURG, Texas - Rio Grande Valley FC (8-9-7; 31 pts.) fall 1-2 to Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC (11-7-7; 40 pts.) on Saturday night at H-E-B Park.
The Toros opened the scoring tab in the 26th minute after Frank Lopez sent the ball to an attacking Emilio Ycaza. Ycaza was able to have the goalkeeper commit, giving him the opportunity to send the ball to the back of the net, 1-0. Ycaza scored his first goal with the Toros.
Colorado equalized the game in the 49th following a Hadji Barry goal, 1-1. Barry scored a brace in the 81st minute after connecting with a pass inside the box by Deshane Beckford, 1-2.
RGV FC was able to dominate in the first half, not leaving any room for error in a strong Colorado side. In the 6th minute Juan David Cabezas threatened the Switchbacks goal with a header following a corner but was sent too high.
The home side had another dangerous header by defender Arturo Diz Pe but was saved at the top center of the goal. Colorado had two back-to-back opportunities starting with a 35-yard shot by Philip Mayaka in the 36th minute. Thomas Amang then sent a shot from the left side of the goal but was saved at the top right corner.
Before the halftime whistle, Juan Carlos Azocar sent a shot from a set piece situation but missed to the left side of the goal. Andres Flores then had another dangerous opportunity after a Lopez backheel pass but wasn't able to capitalize.
In the 62nd minute Azocar sent a dangerous free kick shot to the goal but Sean Melvin managed to save the attempt at the top of the net. The Toros had two long shot attempts in the 73rd minute but were unable to finish.
RGV finished the night with 13 total shots, three on target while Colorado totaled five shots, three on target.
Deric totaled two saves for the night. While Ycaza tallied a goal, he had one total shot, one on goal with five created opportunities. Flores was able to also create four chances for the night.
