Rio Grande Valley FC Toros News Release

EDINBURG, Texas - Rio Grande Valley FC (0-0-1, 1 pts) drew 1-1 on opening night against Las Vegas Lights FC (0-0-1, 1 pts) at H-E-B Park in front of an energetic crowd.

The Toros struggled early as a defensive error placed them behind at just 4-minutes into the match; 0-1. Taylor Davila caught a bad rebound off his foot and sent the ball into his own net.

After a lengthy battle in the opening half, RGV FC found fresh air as Ricky Ruiz sent a laser shot from outside the 18-yard box, positioned on the right side of the field. Ruiz curled the shot after creating space, notching the match at 1-1 at the 45th minute just before the break.

The second half saw a tight match develop as both sides traded blows in the midfield sector. Rio Grande afforded 15 shots, three on target on the night, while Las Vegas kept pace with 12 shots on their own, causing danger on four occasions.

The Toros used their pieces to their advantage as fresh legs were introduced in the late stages and some of the younger roster made their professional debut in the likes of 15-year-old Dylan Hernandez and 16-year-old Angel Luna, both earning a couple of minutes of action.

Tomas Ritondale impressed as he posed as an attacking defender who played the possession well and helped on the transition alongside veteran Jose Torres; the 20-year-old out of Argentina is looking to be a key piece to look at when on the pitch for Cabrera.
